WLW: Diet Changes

This week's topic: Changes – What are some changes you have made in your life that have really made a difference? Is it eating more fruits? Or cutting out carbs? Or Throwing out all the Christmas chocolate? What changes are helping you in your weight loss goals?

The biggest change I have made is cutting out grains and starches. Every now and then, or later on, I will add a few back in (oatmeal, Ezekiel bread), but for now my body is responding better without them. Every now and then I crave a nice sandwich, but it's not worth the pain (literally) it will cause, or the step backward.

While the typical macronutrient (carbohydrates/protein/fat) ratio in a healthy diet is 40/30/30, I am utilizing a 30/50/20 plan. That means, half my calories come from protein, 30% from carbohydrates (vegetables and fruit only) and 20% from healthy fats. For my goals, it works. I advise only doing this if you are working with a trainer, nutritionist, etc.

I am feeling great! Nothing about the holidays destroyed any plans either and my husband and I chose to help each other along and hold one another accountable. As I was getting ready for bed the other night, I noticed the muscles in my back, which are now much more pronounced. I admit, I gawked, at myself. I was am impressed. Seeing muscle definition is just a good reminder to keep going. More importantly, taking efforts to improve my health now will prevent me from paying for illness later. Amen? Amen!

It's so funny that you would talk about this. I have been doing some research lately and am thinking about going grain free. I need to do more research. I have heard that it is good for those with GERD, which I do have terribly. If you have any information that you would care to share, I would be greatly appreciative.

Blessings to you my friend!
And thanks for joining Weight Loss Wednesday! You're such a great encourager!

We are also looking at cutting out grains and starches too. For myself, to deal with migraine issues and for my son to deal with some issues often related to autism. We've done the Specific Carbohydrate Diet in the past with good results I think but I must admit that I really don't want to go back on it. Not sure if the results we had were worth all the work involved! Still mulling things over. I think that we'll be gradually making changes towards the SCD in the end though. Sigh.

Keep sharing about how great you feel being grain free! I need all the motivation and encouragement I can get!

I've lost 30 pounds by cutting grains and sugar out. Highly recommend the new book Wheat Belly and the latest Atkins book. Blessings, Pat
