WFW Proverbs 15:4

Proverbs 15:4
The soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit. (Proverbs 15:4)
Do you encounter people who, regardless of the situation, always seem to know what to say, or know to say nothing? When you walk away from this kind of person, you will always walk away feeling better and loved. It is grand, isn't it.
I am not one such person. Too often I speak when I should just keep listening, I give advice when none is warranted. I even speak when I am not asked. I am known to be honest, at times I have been brutally so. But, I am learning.

I am learning to speak life and encouragement rather than words that will crush a spirit.  I am watching and observing those who do this with ease, the people everyone else wants to sit beside and chat.  I am noticing their words are few, their love is abundant, and their attitude is selfless.
I am striving to have a tongue that brings forth life, especially with those closest to me.  For the stranger on the street I will do the same, for the acquaintance, the friend, I have become more careful in what I say, and when I say it.  Online statuses receive the same kind of care, for those who do not know me, do not know my heart, I do not want them to question my integrity.  My prayer is that this becomes part of my very nature, rather than an intentional thought.  Until then, I ask forgivness from those whose spirits I have quickly crushed with my untamed tongue.

I'm striving to have a soothing tongue too. One of the most challenging things to gain control over... yet perhaps one of the most necessary too, huh? Thanks for your thoughts and encouragement.

Ha, you aren't alone. I probably say too much sometimes and not enough other times. Sigh.

Have a blessed WFW!

Love,
Beth

I'm so there with you. My mouth has a mind of it's own and most of the time it speaks without talking to my brain first :-) Happy WFW....thanks

This is so true, and your post is a psalm. When you said you're watching and observing people with this gift, I have to agree, this is key. The more time I've spent with the Titus women God's put in my life, the more I've been able to distinguish that a life walked closely and honestly with Jesus changes my heart AND my tongue. Great post. Thank you,
Alyssa
