- Man oh man, I have not been very good about blogging. Oh well, work and home duties call and let's be honest, both rank higher in the scheme of life than blogging. Right? Right. At least a little higher anyway.
- Our girl's Godfather came into town Tuesday night and was able to join us for dinner and hang out for a little bit. Needless to say, our girl was beyond thrilled with the attention and love she was shown. It was so nice to have him here as well, too bad the rest of the family wasn't able to make the trip. However, we look forward to his return visit in a few months!
- My daughter will be two on Sunday. Wow.
- At this moment, my kid and her two cousins are in the living room. One minute they are laughing, the next one is complaining about the other. Maybe having an only child isn't such a bad idea after all.
- Millionaire training is this weekend! WOO HOO! Not only is it going to be amazing, but I will be there with some of the coolest chicks I know. I cannot wait!
- I do hope to be blogging a bit more regularly soon, especially on Wednesdays for Word Filled Wednesday. Not that anyone would know this, but there has been a swirling mass of thought in my head as of late, all of which I plan on blogging about. The problem is time.
- Friends, I pray you each are having fun, laughing, and are being blessed. Enjoy this day, wherever you are.

The reason I quit grad school
Once upon a time (a long long time ago), I was in grad school. I had been accepted into one of the top graduate school counseling programs these United States has to offer. And, I hated it. Every second, every moment, I hated it. Most people in my classes, in my humble opinion, needed to go see a counselor more than they needed to be a counselor. The clip below pretty accurately describes how I would probably be in a counseling session, which is one more reason I quit.
Enjoy, you needed to laugh today anyway.

Common sense is a beautiful thing, and the lack thereof makes me crazy
I am a personal trainer. I work with all kinds of people, all kinds of backgrounds, with all kinds of stories. I love what I do. It is hard work, exhausting work, but I do love it. But let me share with you one small thing that makes me crazy, a lack of common sense. Let me share with you for a moment, and please, don't let your jaw hit the desk when it drops open as you read.
This week I began training a young girl (younger than me, younger than 30, older than 20) who is just entering her last trimester of pregnancy. No, that is not what will cause your jaw to drop. She informed me she and the baby's daddy will be getting married a few months after the baby is born. Oh no, your jaw should still be firmly in place. We began working out and about 45 minutes in she said she was getting dizzy, very dizzy. I had her sit and asked what she had eaten that day. Here's the conversation:
Her: A fiber bar
Me: Right before you came in? What did you have for breakfast?
Her: No, that's it, just the bar
Me: We started our session close to noon and all you have had is one fiber bar?
Her: Yes
Me: Did you forget you were coming to workout today?
Her: No
Me: You do realize you are pregnant and need food, right? And that nutrition is more important when you are pregnant, especially when exercising?
Her: (blank stare.....cue crickets chirping)
Me: Stay here, I have a granola bar in my bag you can have
Commence with jaw dropping.
I then gave her a brief lecture, and informed her I needed her to write down every morsel of food she ate between then and our next session. What in the world???
Fine, you want to look good for your wedding, I understand that (oh wait, I don't, I was 30 pounds heavier than I am now when I got married). You want to be healthy, fine. But the script changes when you are pregnant friends. How do people not know this? I gently informed her weight loss would not even be mentioned until well after the baby has entered this world, and even then, her recovery is more important.
But wait, there's more. She mentioned she cannot wait to have the baby because she is just so bored because she cannot go out anymore. Ummm, guess what, when the baby is actually out of your belly is when all the work starts. Sometimes I have to wonder why licenses are required for driving, guns, and marriage, but anyone can have a baby. Surely there should be some requirements that have to be met. Right? Oye.
On a serious note, I know God has each of my clients with me for a purpose, for a reason. I know she chose my card for a reason, unseen and unknown by me. Therefore, pray I speak life to her, encourage her, and do not allow my nonverbal communication to get out of control. Or my verbal communication for that matter. Human life is precious, very precious, and this child, regardless of his parent's desire to return to their parties, deserves only the best. Dear Lord, may my tongue speak only what is necessary, only what will bless you. Amen.

How are you?
I hate this question. Honestly, I do. Why? Because 9 times out of 10 the person asking the question does not actually care how you are, I mean, how you really are. We have become polite enough to ask but unless your answer can fit in a text message, IM, facebook status, or comes in three words or less, we just do not know what to do with a real answer, an honest answer.
Some days we are fine. We are doing well, and we say so. We smile and return the favor of asking, while secretly hoping the answer we receive is short, concise, and positive, and move along our through our day.
Yet friends, there are days we are not fine. We are tired, frustrated, irritated, stressed, lonely. We are in desparate need of a place to unwind, recooperate, rejuvenate, and breathe. There are weeks, like this one, that have seemed to race by at an incredible pace and though we have kept up, we know the pace we are at cannot be maintained, should not be maintained for long. We need someone to help us carry the load.
We need a place to release the cap on the bottle of our feelings and thoughts and allow them to flow freely. Let them go so the bottle does not crack because soon enough we will have to fill it up again.
I do not mind hard work. I do not mind giving to others. I do not mind serving. But if this week has taught me anything it is that I need to find time to rest, to ask for help, to voice my doubts and frustrations, and even some fears.
And when I ask the question, "How are you," I will wait for your answer, for as long as it takes. Even if you are not fine, if all is not well, if your answer takes up more than a minute of my time. I will allow you to breathe, to be, and will not feel pressured to respond or draw a silver lining. If we are going to walk through this life with one another, we need to learn to do it better.

Thursday's Thoughts
- Wow-za-roo, what a week this has been! Yesterday I woke up at 5:15am to hit the gym, came home, showered, got my kiddo to my dad's and headed to the gym for four straight hours of training (think, standing the whole time and a whole lot of movement). Left the gym, picked up the kiddo, came home and played, made dinner, and headed back to the gym for the 5:30 group I train. To say I was tired by the time my head hit the pillow is a vast understatement.
- This morning I had a 6am client. I woke up at 5:45 (ZOIKS!) to my husband saying, "Honey, don't you need to be up?" I slept right through the alarm, which did go off. Never in my life have I done that, but man am I thankful for my husband being awake, and living in a small area and in close proximity to the gym. No, I was not late for the session.
- Seeing as how I am so tired, I was going to skip working out altogether today. However, my alarm clock husband made the comment, "but you always feel better when you do." So, I went out for a jog. Someone please remind me to never go for a jog in the heat, especially when I have failed to take my O2 Gold!!
- The church we attend is having its men's retreat this weekend. So, it's a girl's weekend here! Time to party....but shhhh, don't tell Daddy!
- Millionaire training is next weekend, and I cannot wait!!!!! It's going to be amazing.
- And finally, my only thought is I am in desperate need of a shower and lunch, but in the reverse order! Enjoy friends, enjoy!

One But Not The Same
I am thrilled that our former pastor, Chris Williamson, chose to write this book discussing God's diverse kingdom. Pastor Chris has never been afraid of tackling subjects most churches steer very clear of. Having been a member of his church and under his authority, I can honestly say he lives by the words he writes and is challenged himself by the messages God brings him. God took him to a place he had not considered, in an area he had not considered, but through faith, grace, prayers, Pastor Chris is leading a church that is diverse in many areas, and leading it well. Be challenged, order this book and find out what God really thinks and what is possible when God's people have a kingdom mindset.
“Christ’s bride is a racially mixed, economically mixed, and gender mixed bride. This means that Christ is in a mixed marriage! That’s beautiful and it should make us shout, but there is an obvious disconnect that should also make us weep, and here it is: The kingdom of God on earth through the church appears to be theoretical at best because the city coming from heaven is diversified whereas the city going to heaven is by and large homogenized in its local expressions. In other words, we don’t look like where we’re going. Our churches within the Church and our spiritual cities within the City are sadly segregated and separated along racial and denominational lines. We all know that no segregated church is going to have a lasting impact on the world. It’s past time for the church, or should I say the kingdom of God on earth, to come together and be united in the midst of our diversity. We are much more potent and successful when we come together under the banner of Jesus. We are much more reflective of heaven and God’s great love when we come together as one.” page xxii and xxiii

Peter and me
This morning during a Bible class at church, we were discussing 2 Peter. I find it beautifully ironic that Peter pens these books that are so bold and blatant. Peter is known for speaking up, and out, and even for having his foot in his mouth more often than not. A Bible dictionary I have says that Peter, "was apparently the strongest individual in the band.....Typical of Peter's dominant personality was his readiness to walk to Jesus on the water (Matt 14:28) and to ask Jesus the question of how often he should forgive a sinning brother (Matt 18:21)."
Oh dear Peter, the disciple who would speak out, up, over and beyond. He got out of the boat to walk to Jesus, yes, he started to sink, but hey, he got out of the boat. Peter, by all accounts is a fiery one. Whether right or wrong, he goes full force in whichever direction he's facing. Deny you Jesus? No way he says. Not ever, not me, not even once. Sweet Peter, you are wrong, and three times you will say you don't know me. What? Impossible! Alas, this is what happens. Yet even then, even in going full throttle in his fear, he knows in his heart who his Savior is. He knows, and he knows he has messed up.
God is merciful, and in spite of Peter's denial, Peter is the first to see the risen Christ. Peter, you are forgiven, get up, move on. You have work to do. You have people to teach, a church to help build, and my name to spread. And Peter does it, boldly, and without restraint. He tells the people to be "self controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed" (1 Peter 1:13). Peter knows the importance of self control, where its lack will lead.
Peter, the rock, tarnished, imperfect, bold, yet used by Almighty God for an eternal purpose. Reading about Peter, getting to know him, studying what he writes helps me see there is, indeed, hope for one such as me. And sometimes I find myself stiffling laughter because Peter speaks long before he thinks, and I know I would have done the same, have done in fact. Peter, you are a mess, a mess on fire and sold out for Christ. And in the end, when Nero chose to persecute God's followers, you chose to be crucified upside down because you did not see fit to be crucified in the exact same manner as your Savior.
Your passion, your excitement, your boldness, your zeal. I get it.

Thursday's Thoughts
- It was a day of doctors for me today. First stop was the orthotics place for inserts. Part of my brain thinks, "how lame," which in reality, is true! HA! My right leg is 11 mm shorter than my left, and I have a six inch plate and seven screws in my right ankle. All of these, in addition to past traumas and workouts and athletics have left me in some pain. So, hopefully I will literally be walking the straight and narrow soon and not experiencing pain anymore!
- From there I headed to a walk-in clinic because I have a cold that has gotten progressively worse through the week. I was borderline positive for strep and when the doctor asked how I felt about shots I said, "As long as they are the big powerful ones, I am all for them! In fact, I was hoping to get one!" He laughed, and also prescribed two medicines. After the shots, which had me limping like I just did a serious leg workout, and a two hour nap, I am feeling better. Yay drugs.
- My child can count to ten. Does she really understand what she is doing? I am guessing no, but still, she sounds so smart when she does it. She also sings "Jesus Loves Me," but skips some words. Therefore, the first line is, "Jesus me, this I know!" She is so funny.
- Jen started Thursday's Thoughts, so hop over there to see if she too has any thoughts posted.
- It's raining, like crazy here. Our street is now a small river, the joys of living in the flatlands! I do love the rain because it decreases the need for watering, but I am missing the sunshine. The girl, her father, and I have been spending so much time outside and we are all missing it.
- I will be in the metroplex in two weeks for an AdvoCare training! It's going to be AMAZING! From what other distributors have said, this is the best training ever done. Yee haw! I cannot wait! Plus, my buddy, Dr Hackman will be there! You do know I adore him, right?
- Everytime I sneeze my sweet girl says, "Bless you Momma. Nose runnin'." Awww, sweetheart!
- That is all the thinking for me today. Be blessed, stay dry, stay warm, enjoy the sunshine, or whatever fits where you live!

Twilight Gospel
My Thoughts:
I must first tell you that I have not read any, no, not one, of the Twilight books. To be honest, they do not appeal to me in the slightest. I think Roberts' book definitely has a purpose, for those who have young people in their lives reading the books, becoming obessed with them. This book will help you identify areas that my be gently bending the truth in ways the reader may not even be aware of. For parents of young girls and youth workers, The Twilight Gospel will serve as a guide for you in discussing the Twilight series with younger generations. I personally do not have a use for this book and was not highly interested in it. That being said, I do see how it can serve others. It's a short book, easy to understand. And for those surrounded by young people, especially girls, who are easily swayed by romantic fairytales, this book is one you need to pick up. It will also help you to open dialogue with those so engrossed in the Twilight series. For me personally? This book is a take it or leave it type of book.
The blockbuster Twilight Saga is being read by teenager and adult alike. These powerful novels are getting even more popular as the movies hit the theaters. Crisply written and with a gracious spirit, The Twilight Gospel will help teens, their parents, and their pastors discern what is good from what is unhealthy in the novels and equip them to be biblically literate readers. Read an excerpt here.
From the back cover:
With these powerful novels getting even more popular as the movies hit the cinemas, the call for a Christian response is strong. What values and ideas do Meyer's novels promote? What is good about them, and what deserves closer inspection?
The spirituality and worldview of the Twilight Saga are fascinating, but they do not sit easily with orthodox Christianity. This book carefully and graciously assesses what is praiseworthy and what is less so. It helps the reader to think more clearly about issues to do with occult spirits, life after death, myths and legends, sexuality, personal spiritual power, the culture of glamour and the lure of materialism. All these subjects are woven into the fabric of the Twilight Saga.
The central point of the book is to help teens (and their parents) discern what is excellent from what is unhealthy, helping to create robust, shrewd, and literate young adults.
Endorsements:
'Millions of young minds are being shaped by the Twilight Saga. Dave Roberts offers valuable cultural and biblical insights - neither reactionary nor reticent - for anyone seeking to separate the good, the bad and the ugly in these powerful books.'
-Pete Greig, author of Red Moon Rising, God on Mute and Punk Monk.
About the Author:
Dave Roberts is the author of the best-selling The Toronto Blessing and Red Moon Rising with joint sales in excess of 100,000. I want to be like her
I want to be like my daughter. You read that correctly, I want to be like my soon to be two year old. Why? She just plain rocks. What? That explanation does not work for you? Fine, I'll elaborate.
Let's begin with her enthusiasm. The girl will clap and shout "yay" for herself, me, her dad, anyone really. She has the gift of encouragement, in vast quantities too. When we play outside, she walks to the edge of the porch and says, "Ready, set, go jump," and proceeds to take one big step off the porch. It is not even close to a jump, but to her, it is simply fantastic. So, she claps and says, "good jump baby, good jump." I love it. She runs and falls (usually by fault of her own feet), gets up as she states, "oh, fall down," and proceeds on with her playing. My girl also laughs so hard she snorts. Who doesn't love that? She even knows she's funny. While in deep conversation or play with her dolls and toys, she'll just start giggling and then exclaim, "I funny!"
And then there's her loving nature. She loves to high five, and hug, and give kisses. She throws one arm around me each night to give me a hug, and leans her cheeck close into mine as she says, "I love you Momma." She loves a lot. Just listen to her, she typically lists off the items she loves. Daddy, Mommy, cousins, Mamo, Papa, Elmo, bunny, the list is endless. Although my favorite follows our bedtime prayers when she whispers, "Amen, I love you Jesus." Ah! I just love it.
Have I mentioned her smile and eyes? They light up, and are both filled with personality. She loves to smile, and her eyes are always expressive. The girl has a million and one expressions, and she goes through each of them on a daily basis. She knows how to play, and dance, and enjoy music. I tell you, she's just the coolest.
It's official, I want to be like my daughter.

A Scarlet Cord of Hope
Order from amazon here.
Or order from Sheryl's website for a signed copy here!
It's not often that I can say I personally know the author of a book I am reading. This time, however, that is exactly the case. I remember when Sheryl first revealed she would be writing a book, her journey with depression, PTSD, and her history of abuse. I was in awe that someone would choose to lay themselves open like she was choosing to. Her blog started her jorney towards this book, and this book is only the beginning of what I believe is to come.
I can honestly say that it is rare to read a book, of this subject, and not have each page harp on, bash, or speak ill of the writer's abusers. Sheryl is honest about what has happened in her life, the choices others made, and her own, and how each person has been affected by those choices. She does not however speak ill of any person, not even the ex husband who probably would have killed her had they remained married. I was left with my mouth agape at the realization that her true heart is for each individual in her life to know God, to know him fully, and to receive his grace, mercy, and love. Sheryl's book is also unique because at the end of each chapter she has included a "what I know now" section. You are not left thinking merely about her journey, but will know where God has brought her through that journey.
Whether you have ever been in an abusive relationship or not, this book is a great read. I finished it a few hours after receiving it in the mail in fact, it is that good! For those of you who suffer with depression, or PTSD, you need this book. It will bless you, enlighten you, and allow you to see you are definitely not alone. Now go, order it on amazon or on her website!!
About the Book:
"A Scarlet Cord of Hope" is the true life testimony of Sheryl Griffin. As God has healed her on her journey, she wants to share her healing with you. From alcoholic parents, to an abusive first marriage, to being diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, chances are many of her trials have also been yours. Sheryl had a past that hung on her neck like a scarlet cord. She now knows that what she thought was a noose is actually a God-given lifeline to His grace. Discover what Sheryl found on her journey ... Love, mercy, forgiveness, and hope.
About Sheryl:
Author, Encourager, Mom - Sheryl Griffin.
Sheryl is a woman with a story to share. Her story has three important elements that every woman yearns for: courage, forgiveness, and hope. Sheryl is grateful for the opportunities that God has given to her to share her story, a story about her own scarlet cord and the ultimate hope she found.
In 2007, Sheryl was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder along with panic and anxiety. This diagnosis led Sheryl on a quest to find answers to the many questions she had regarding her past, her choices, and the things that happened to her. She felt as if her life was a giant puzzle and she desperately needed to put the puzzle together, in order to move forward in her life. Sheryl did not start out to write a book, rather she began journaling at her doctor's recommendation. As she began to journal, she realized God had a much bigger plan than simply helping her find the answers to the questions she sought. It is a plan that she never dreamed of, but it has become a purpose in her heart. The purpose is clear: to share the message of hope and all that comes with it...grace, mercy, freedom, and forgiveness.

Slightly off center
I am feeling off today. Although, I am not sure that is even a good way to put it. Off balance? Maybe that is better. And of course, being the type I am, I want to know why, what is causing it, and how to get it all straightened out. Unfortunately, at this time, and at this place, I do not know. And that my friends only throws me off more.
I like to fix things; I am a doer to my core. I like movement and activity, and jumping into solutions when problems arise. There are moments though that require me to sit, and shut up, and wait and listen. God is always faithful, always knowing, always hearing. I am not. So, I am left feeling that I should be thankful for these moments of un-centeredness which make me stop, slow down, and reflect.
Speak Lord, I am listening.

He's Alive!
Luke 24
The Resurrection
(1-3)But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
(36-49)While they were telling these things, He Himself stood in their midst and said to them, "Peace be to you." But they were startled and frightened and thought that they were seeing a spirit. And He said to them, "Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? "See My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself; touch Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have." And when He had said this, He showed them His hands and His feet. While they still could not believe it because of their joy and amazement, He said to them, "Have you anything here to eat?" They gave Him a piece of a broiled fish; and He took it and ate it before them. Now He said to them, "These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled." Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, and He said to them, "Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day, and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. "You are witnesses of these things. "And behold, I am sending forth the promise of My Father upon you; but you are to stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high."
Yes friends, we serve a living God. He did not stay in the tomb, He ROSE! He is alive, and he has sent us the Holy Spirit to dwell in us, to know him and make him known throughout all the nations. The story continues, through each one of us.
Happy Easter!

They held a collective breath
Luke 23:50-56
Jesus Is Buried
And a man named Joseph, who was a member of the Council, a good and righteous man (he had not consented to their plan and action), a man from Arimathea, a city of the Jews, who was waiting for the kingdom of God;
this man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. And he took it down and wrapped it in a linen cloth, and laid Him in a tomb cut into the rock, where no one had ever lain. It was the preparation day, and the Sabbath was about to begin. Now the women who had come with Him out of Galilee followed, and saw the tomb and how His body was laid. Then they returned and prepared spices and perfumes. And on the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.

Jesus was crucified, his body buried. And the world held its collective breath. How could the one who claimed to be the Son of God be dead? Was he not the one who performed miracles, rose Lazarus, and said He brought eternal life? How could this be? Had God forgotten his beloved? The world stood by, breathless.
But they would have to wait one more day to find their answer.
To be continued.....

Good Friday
Luke 24:46-47:
He told them, "This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Spoiler alert!
Don't worry friends, the tomb they placed Jesus in? He didn't stay there! Nope, not the end of the story...it concludes on Sunday (smiling)!
